How Do I Switch My BirdSnap Smart Feeder to a New WiFi Network or Router?
Quick Answer
When you change your WiFi network, router, or password, the BirdSnap camera needs to be re-paired through the app. Put the camera into pairing mode by double-clicking the power button (blue LED will flash), then follow the same steps as first-time setup in the BirdSnap app under Add Device. This takes about 5 minutes and will not affect your video history or account data.
What's Happening
The BirdSnap camera stores your WiFi credentials (network name and password) internally. If either of those changes, whether because you replaced your router, changed your WiFi password, moved to a new home, or switched to a different network, the camera can no longer authenticate with your network and will show as offline.
The solution is to run through the WiFi pairing process again. This does not create a new device entry in your account; it simply updates the network credentials stored on the camera.
Step-by-Step: Switching to a New WiFi Network
Step 1 — Make sure your phone is connected to the new 2.4 GHz network. Before starting, connect your phone to the WiFi network you want the BirdSnap camera to use. Confirm it is a 2.4 GHz network — 5 GHz is not supported.
Step 2 — Put the camera into pairing mode. While the camera is powered on, double-click the power button. The blue LED will begin to flash rapidly, and you will hear a prompt sound. This indicates the camera is ready to receive new WiFi credentials.
- If the blue LED does not flash after double-clicking, try inserting a pin into the reset hole on the top of the camera and holding for 3 seconds to perform a factory reset. This is required if the camera is stuck on the old network.
Step 3 — Open the BirdSnap app and tap Add Device. Even though your feeder is already registered to your account, tapping Add Device is the correct path to update the camera's WiFi credentials. Follow the on-screen instructions.
Step 4 — Select your new 2.4 GHz network and enter the password. Choose the correct network from the list and type the password carefully. The camera will connect within 1–3 minutes.
Step 5 — Confirm the camera is back online. Once pairing is complete, the camera will appear on your BirdSnap home page with an active live stream and green status indicator.
Common Scenarios
You changed your WiFi password: The camera will go offline because the stored password is now incorrect. Follow the steps above to re-enter the new password.
You replaced your router: Even if the new router has the same network name, the camera may struggle to reconnect automatically because the underlying network credentials have changed. Re-pairing is the most reliable fix.
You moved to a new address: Remove the camera from the old account if needed, then re-pair to the new network as described above.
You want to connect to a completely different account: Perform a factory reset first (3-second pin in reset hole), then add the device fresh to the new account.
When to Contact Support
If the camera does not enter pairing mode after double-clicking the power button, and a factory reset also fails to produce a flashing blue LED, contact the support team. Include your camera's serial number (printed on the side of the camera) and a description of the LED behavior.
