How Do I View the Contents of the Memory Card?
Quick Answer
The most reliable way to view memory card footage is to remove the card and read it on a computer using a card reader. You can also connect the camera directly to a computer via USB cable. In-app playback of memory card contents is currently limited and can be slow — using a card reader is the recommended approach for browsing and downloading footage.
What's Happening
The BirdSnap camera stores motion-triggered clips on the memory card as standard video files. While the app does display some memory card playback, this feature can be slow to load and is a known limitation — particularly over WiFi. Reading the card directly on a computer bypasses this entirely and gives you fast, reliable access to all recorded footage.
Method 1 — Card Reader (Recommended)
Step 1 — Power off the camera by long-pressing the power button. Always power off before removing the card to prevent data corruption.
Step 2 — Open the silicone cover on top of the camera and press the card gently until it springs out. Remove it.
Step 3 — Insert the memory card into a microSD card reader and plug the reader into your computer's USB port. Most computers also have a built-in SD card slot — if yours does, you may need a microSD-to-SD adapter (typically included with most memory cards).
Step 4 — The card will appear as a removable drive on your computer. Open it to browse the video files. They are stored as standard video files that can be played in any media player.
Step 5 — Copy, view, or delete the files as needed. When finished, eject the card safely before removing it from the reader.
Step 6 — Reinsert the card into the camera, close the silicone cover, and power the camera back on.
Method 2 — Connect Camera Directly via USB
Some computers will recognize the BirdSnap camera as a storage device when connected via the USB-C cable:
Step 1 — Connect the camera to your computer using the included Type-C cable.
Step 2 — The camera may appear as a removable drive, allowing you to browse its memory card contents directly.
Note: This method does not work on all operating systems and computer configurations. If the camera is not recognized, use a card reader instead.
Method 3 — In-App Memory Card Playback
The BirdSnap app does include an SD card playback section in the Library. However, loading times can be very slow, and not all clips may load successfully over a WiFi connection. This method is suitable for occasionally checking specific time periods but is not practical for browsing large amounts of footage.
When to Contact Support
If the card is not readable on your computer (the drive does not appear, or files are unreadable), the card may need to be reformatted. If reformatting via the app does not resolve the issue, the card may be damaged.
