Why Won't My BirdSnap Charge?

Quick Answer

A BirdSnap camera that won't charge is almost always caused by one of three things: a faulty or incompatible charger/cable, debris in the charging port, or a camera that is stuck and needs a reset. Work through the checklist below before concluding the battery or charging circuit has failed.

What's Happening

The BirdSnap camera charges via a USB-C port (there are two: one on top of the camera and one on the back of the feeder body). When charging is working, a solid yellow LED confirms it. If you connect a cable and see no LED response at all — or the camera does not charge despite appearing connected — there is a break somewhere in the charging chain.

Step-by-Step: Diagnosing a Charging Problem

Step 1 — Check the charger and cable.

The camera requires a DC 5V / 2A adapter. Lower-output chargers (such as 5V/0.5A or 5V/1A) may not deliver enough current to charge the camera reliably, particularly when it is in active use. Try using a different adapter and cable — ideally one known to work with another device. Check both ends of the cable for bent pins or visible damage.

Step 2 — Inspect the charging port.

Look inside the USB-C port for dust, lint, or debris. Even a small amount of compacted material can prevent a good electrical contact. Use a dry microfiber cloth, a puff of compressed air, or a soft cotton swab lightly dampened with pure alcohol to clean the port. A plastic toothpick or non-metal pick can gently dislodge packed debris. Allow the port to dry completely before connecting the cable again.

Step 3 — Try the other charging port.

The BirdSnap camera has two USB-C charging ports. If one port is not responding, try the other. The top port (under the silicone cover) and the rear port (on the back of the feeder body) are both functional charging inputs.

Step 4 — Perform a camera reset.

A camera that is stuck in an unresponsive state may not accept charging. Insert a pin or needle into the reset hole (P-hole) on top of the camera and hold for 3 seconds to restart the camera's system. After the reset, connect the charger again and check for the yellow LED.

Step 5 — Confirm the silicone cover is not obstructing the port.

The white silicone protective cover on the top of the camera must be fully opened before inserting the cable. If it is partially covering the port, the cable may not seat fully.

LED Charging Indicators

LED behavior Meaning
Solid yellow Charging in progress — normal
Solid green Fully charged
No LED while plugged in Check cable, adapter, port, or reset camera
Solid red Battery critically low — charge immediately

When to Contact Support

If you have tried two different charger/cable combinations, cleaned both ports, and performed a reset — and the camera still shows no response when connected to power — there may be a fault with the battery or charging circuit. Contact support with:
